Xbox One Elite Controller Versus PS4 Dualshock Controller

Xbox One Elite Controller Versus PS4 Dualshock Controller
The new Xbox One Elite Controller was just released with a good set of features and customization options. The PS4 controller has been regarded as a good controller for the PS4 console. Let’s see how the Xbox One Elite Controller compares to the PS4 Dualshock 4 controller.

Let’s start with the PS4 Dualshock controller. It has a great button layout that works well for most games. It also has a touchpad which can make for some interesting gameplay. They also added the ability for players to be able to rebind the buttons on the controller which is a great feature. Overall it’s a pretty good controller that works well for the console.

Something that’s not so great about the PS4 Dualshock controller is that the thumbsticks tend to wear out. This definitely shouldn’t be happening with a controller that is supposed to last for years. The speaker in the controller is pretty low quality. It was cool when the Wii motes introduced a speaker in the controller, but that was for a more casual audience and it is years later there should be a better speaker or no speaker at all. Another unnecessary feature of the controller is the light bar. It’s not really used much and just drains the battery.

Now let’s look at the Xbox One Elite Controller. First it’s made of high quality material and is smooth to the touch. It has interchangeable thumbsticks and D-pads which is great to have the option to customize a controller in this way.

The Xbox One Elite Controller also has extra buttons. There are four paddles on the bottom of the controller that can allow the player to customize their controller even more. It also has hair trigger locks for faster shooting in FPS games. And also like the PS4 Dualshock controller the player can rebind the buttons.

The thing that is not so great about the Xbox One Elite Controller is the price. It’s $150 for the Xbox One Elite Controller which is $100 more than the standard controllers for the Xbox One and PS4 consoles. The controller also does not include a rechargeable battery pack which you would expect to be included with a controller at this price.

With all of these factors weighed in I would have to say that the Xbox One Elite Controller is the better controller. Even with the higher price point and no battery pack I still think that overall it’s the better choice.

Hmm…curious article. Why would you compare a 60 dollar controller with a 150 dollar controller. If you want to do a legitimate comparison, compare a scuf ps4 or scuf xbox one controller to the xbox elite controller. The scufs have been available for serious gamers for quite some time now, yet people seem to not know that what the elite controller is doing is neither new, or unique. Yikes.

    • lindin loubeau

The Elite controller is cheaper than a scuff controller with the same parts. By a 100 dollars! So yeah the Elite is better.

      • datdude

Not true. Sorry. By your rationale, the ps4 controller is better because it’s cheaper…but nowhere in the analysis presented is price considered a factor for the comparison…so why are you making it a factor now? Curious. And the bottom line is the scuf price is comparable to the elite price if you supply your own controller. And guess what? You don’t have to worry about the cost of replacing batteries. Burn.

        • lindin loubeau

No sir. My rationale is that for the same things that a Scuff controller is offering you can get the Xbox one for cheaper. Thats why its better than a Scuff controller. The ps4 controller does not offer what the scuff or elite does which is why the price is justifiable to some and makes it the better option than the Ps4 controller.

          • datdude

That’s your opinion, and it’s a weak argument. It could be argued that what you end up spending on batteries for the elite controller makes it more expensive than the scuf in the long run.

          • Ryan Kosior

That’s actually a pretty strong argument. The battery argument, however, is weak. The ability to replace batteries has value in itself, and you could simply buy a plug and play kit or a charging dock, the latter being $30. Still cheaper than the scuf. And no key is needed for the elite, its magnetically held.

          • datdude

            Yes. And no.

          • datdude

Not really. Everyone that buys the elite controller is going to have the same exact looking controller as the next person. The scuf is far more customizable as far as the look goes….so how much is that worth? I guess it depends, different people like different things. For me, customization is pretty important. So my baby blue scuf with yellow thumbsticks and disc is worth the cost. For someone else, maybe not so.

Also, the ps controller has options the elite doesn’t….such as the trackpad and the ability for the camera to track the controllers position in space. Also a speaker on the controller which has been used to emit game sounds in different games, and a headphone jack in the controller as well. So again, it’s all what’s more important to you. But the ps4 scuf has all that, plus everything the elite has. So…………………again. Subjective.

        • lindin loubeau

AND what’s the deal with ‘burn’? Did that make your statement more real to you lol.
          I don’t get it.

    • Wolfman Jack

      Totally agree!!

  • jacksjus

Comparing a $150 super controller to a standard $60 controller makes no sense. I love the DS4 but I will admit I am on my 5th one since launch. They were built with cheap plastic components that stress over time.

    • Guest

You’re on your fifth one? Damn son, maybe you’re the problem.

      • jacksjus

You may have a point if I were some novice to gaming. In all of my years I only bought extra controllers. Never before have I had to replace a controller. Now it’s happened 4 times. It’s that damn R2 button sticking every time.

    • J.j. Barrington

Odd that I’ve not heard this from anyone else ANYWHERE. Not friends, not coworkers, nowhere else online.

You ARE right, though, that it’s asinine to compare these two products.

      • jacksjus

Great now you have. Right here online.

What you know or didn’t know really doesn’t change the FACT that it occurred. Geek Squad knows my face, so it costs me nothing after the first time so I’m not bitchin.

        • J.j. Barrington

Sounds like, as the other person noted, the problem may be you.

          • jacksjus

Nah I’m good on my opinion. Appreciate your constructive input though.

The Elite controller works for the PC, so no, it’s not just the Xbox One… PC! >8)

  • angh

You can get ps4 controller with the same price and the same customization option:
    https://eu.scufgaming.com/4ps/

Compare them, not a $150 vs $60. With this price difference don’t you think the comparison doesn’t have a sense? it’s like compare basic HP laptop to Alienware and coming with conclusion that Alienware is better.

    • Piiilabyte III

Well Alienware is better…. is it not? We’re talking quality here and the general public will agree with me that the Xbox Elite Controller blows the Steam Controller and the DS4…

Now which one would make sense to buy? That depends on your budget. I, for one, despise the DS4 and would go with the Steam Controller if I didn’t have the money to buy the Elite.

      • angh

Alienware is good, but better? it is really hard to compare.
And anything blows the steam controller imo;)
I can’t stand the xbox one controller and ds4 for me is much better. Personal preference, hard to argue.
And of course xbox elite is excellent controller. But I wouldn’t compare it to the stock ds4, it makes no sense price wise – but the comparison to SCUF is valid, and quality of both is similar. So I don’t really care about budget, but my preference is scuf 4ps and that’s what I’m getting. And I’m perfectly fine with people who prefer asymmetric thumbsticks.

  • kreator

    Why even compare the two?

  • Gman

I love the DS4, still on my launch controllers. perhaps I am not manhandling mine as some do.

  • Guest

While my first DS4′s rubber wore off in 6 days, the replacement has been going strong for almost 2 yrs. So they don’t all wear out and I barely hear anybody complaining about expect maybe people with their launch controllers. So get your facts right there. Also, the speaker in the DS4 is fine, so I don’t know what stupid sh’t you’re complaining about. And while the light does drain battery life, you don’t know if its the main culprit. And $150 for a controller can suck my d’ck. The thumb sticks on the X1 controller are tiny (think small d-pad on Gamecube controllers, small), and the controller is loud as sh’t, as its clicky as sh’t. But honestly this whole article just sounds like either a paid for ad or fanboy fluff piece.

    • wilMaster04

      they fixed that issue

    • Wolfman Jack

      Lol!! Hahahahaha!! That’s awesome!!!

    • Piiilabyte III

Still doesn’t change the fact that the Xbox Elite Controller is better. Don’t get mad.

  • Guest

Who would buy this sh’t? $150 for a controller?! GTFO! Suckers! And to top it off, you know its gonna get all loose.

  • ASSASSYN

I expect a controller of this price to have a rechargeable battery pack? Paid way more for a game controller. It absolutely did not have a battery pack. *looks at steel battalion controller*

  • Tha-Truth

The Xbone’s “Elite” controller is just another overhyped and overpriced piece of junk shovelware from a company desperately trying to turn around their last – gen console’s pathetic retail performance and failing miserably.

Seriously, £150 for a controller which has absolutely NO advantages whatsoever over the Dualshock? Hahahahaha, what kind of a sucker would pay for low – quality garbage like that? I know Xbox fanboys are a gullible lot but surely even they have the brains to realise that this is just Microsoft trying to take advantage of their overly sympathetic and defensive fanbase.

The Elite controller is going to flop at retail because it’s a worthless piece of junk. Just like the Xbox ONE itself is flopping at retail because it’s a worthless piece of junk. Deal with it.

    • Ryan Kosior

Ummm, I hate to be the one to tell you this……. But the elite controller sold out in less than 24 hours.
Also, no improvements of the DS4? Clearly you have no idea what this controller does.

      LMAO 900P

      So much for Naughty Gods

    • Piiilabyte III

Oh really? Check out the reviews for it on Amazon. Keep your deranged opinion to yourself and stick to the facts. “Trump”

stupid article, take it down ya fool

  • Evil_Annie_2015

Comparing that trash of DS4 to a real controller?

  • http://www.sony.com Based Sony

Clearly the author is an Xbot.

If he were truly Based he’d be able to see the Greatness that Awaits in the PS4 Dualshock 4, AKA the most Based controller that ever was. No, not very Based at all.
